■该书第 1959 页 stake 词条有这样个一个句：

We cannot afford to take risks when peoples’ lives are at stake. 现在人命交关，不容我们有闪失。

■个人认为：句中的 peoples’ lives 应为 people’s lives。因为此处的 people 意思是“人”“人们”，其复数形式仍为 people，其复数的所有格应是 people’s，而不能是 peoples’。

■以下两个句子也是该词典找来的，用的 people’s lives：

※ 第 404 页的 comprehend 词条：

She could not comprehend how someone would risk people’s lives in that way. 他不明白怎么会有人竟拿们的生命那样去冒险。

※ 第 940 页的 hazard 词条：

Careless drivers hazard other people’s lives as well as their own. 粗心大意的驾驶者拿他人和自己的生命冒险。
