free 用法详解　　

1. 表示自由做某事，其后接不定式。如：　　

He is free to do what he likes to do. 他可以为所欲为。　　

You are free to go anywhere you wish. 你愿意去哪儿就可以去哪儿。　　

2. 用于for free，其意为“免费”“不花钱”，主要用作状语。如：　　

My neighbour cut my hair for free. 我的邻居免费给我理发。　　

I got this ticket for free from somebody who didn’t want it. 我这张票没花钱，是别人不要的。　　

若用作表语，直接用 free 即可。如：　　

Admission to the concert is free. 音乐会是免费入场的。　　

另外，若用于名词前定语，表示“免费”，也直接用free。如：　　

We enjoy free medical care. 我们享受免费医疗。　　

3. 表示“免除……”“无……的”，可以用be free of和be free from，相比之下，后者指免除或摆脱，多用来指一些不好的东西：　　

(1) be free of charge (cost, expense) 免费 / be free of debts没有债务 / be free of rent 免收租金 / be free of the station 不在（离开）车站　　

(2) be free from pain (disease, fear, danger, error) 没有痛苦（疾病，恐惧，危险，错误）　　

但是，有时两者可换用。如：　　

The city is free of [from] thieves. 这个城市没有盗贼。　　

4. 用作副词时，注意它与freely的区别：free用作副词时用法非常有限，在现代英语中只表示“免费地”“无偿地”，而副词freely的意思则比较多，如表示“自由地”“通畅地”“主动地”等，但是它不表示“免费地”。如：　　

Children can get into the museum free. 儿童可以免费进入博物馆参观。　　

Now that we are alone, we can speak freely. 现在我们单独在一起，可以随便谈了。　　

Water flowed freely from the pipe. 水从管道里通畅地流了出来。
