excellent[5eksElEnt] adj. He is in excellent health. / She speaks excellent Japanese.
except [ik5sept] prep.除…之外:Everyone except me got an invitation. / I can do everything except cook. / He gets up early every day except Sunday.
Peter has been always present except quite recently. / He cannot spare any time except on Sunday. / It had no effect except to make him angry. / I know nothing about it except what I read in the paper. / He’s good-looking except when he smiles. / My papers seem to be everywhere except where they ought to be. / I understand everything except why she killed him.
”,与but, except 同义:No one passed the exam besides [except] Jim. All are here but one. / All are here except one. 2. except与except for:(1)用于句首时,通常只用except for:Except for Jim, everyone went there. We had a pleasant time, except for the weather. (3)当用于all, every, no, everything, anybody, nobody, nowhere, whole 等表示概括性的词语后面时,两者可互换:You couldn’t hear anything except (for) the noise of Louise typing. The house was quiet except for the noise of Louise typing.
