envelope[5envElEup] n. [C]信封，封皮：Have you written his address on the envelope? 你把他的地址写在信封上了吗？

environment[in5vaiErEnmEnt] n.1.[U,C]环境：social environment 社会环境 / Children need a happy home environment. 这些儿童需要有愉快的家庭环境。2.(连用the)自然环境：We must prevent the pollution of the environment. 我们必须防止环境污染。

【辨析】surrounding与environment：两者均可表示“环境”，有时可互换，但相比之下前者侧重指人周围具体的(物质的)东西，而后者虽然也可指周围具体的东西，但它更强调这些周围的东西对人的心情、情感、品德、思想等影响(即强调精神方面的因素)。使用时，前者总是用复数形式，而后者通常用单数形式：grow up in beautiful surroundings 在风景秀丽的环境中长大 / grow up in a happy environment 在幸福愉快的环境中长大

envy[5envi] vt.忌妒，羡慕：How I envy you! 我真羡慕你！/ I envy (you) your good luck. 我羡慕你的好运。 n.[U]忌妒，羡慕：He did that only out of envy. 他这样做是因为妒忌。

equal[5i:kwEl] adj. 1.平等的：Men and women have equal rights in China. 在中国男女都有平等的权利。2.相等的，同等的：Women want equal pay for equal work. 妇女要求同工同酬。/ Mary is quite equal to Bill in brains. 玛莉跟比尔一样聪明。vt.1.等于：Eight times eight equals sixty-four. 八乘八等于六十四。2.比得上：None of us can equal her. 没人比得上她。n. 【说明】1.be equal to(等于)中的to是介词，后接动词时要用动名词：This is equal to saying that he’s a cheat. 这就等于说他是个骗子。2.用作动词时，及物，不要受形容词用法的影响，在其后误加介词to。

equality[i5kwCliti] n. [U]平等，相等，同等：In some countries black people are still fighting for equality. 在某些国家，黑人仍在争取和白人享有同等的权利。

equip[i5kwip] vt.装备，配备：Before you go climbing, you must equip yourselves with things like boots and ropes. 登山前得准备好靴子、绳子之类的东西。/ Our laboratory is well equipped. 我们的实验室设备很好。

【说明】要以被装备的对象作宾语，不能以装备物作宾语，其句型通常为“equip+装备对象+with+装备物”：We are going to equip the room with air-conditioning. 我们打算给这个房间装上空调。注意不说We’re going to equip air-conditioning in the room.
