第 150 页 bookstall 词条：

bookstall n (US news-stand) stall or stand at which books, newpapers and magazines are sold 书摊。

【说明】其中的 newpapers 显然为 newspapers 之误。即其中的漏了一个字母 s。

顺便说一句，类似的编校差错在本书的第 239 页的 chuckle 词条也有一处：

He chuckled (to himself) as he read the newpaper. 他看报时暗暗(独自)发笑。

其中的 newpaper 也漏了一个字母 s。

【No.42】

第 276 页的 commit 词条的第 3 条释义为：

3. [Tn, Tn.pr, Cn.t] ~ sb / oneself (to sth / to doing sth) make it impossible for sb / oneself not to do sth, or to do sth else, esp because of a promise; pledge sb / oneself 使某人[自己]不能不做某事或不做另事(尤指因有承诺)；向某人[自己]保证：

但在该词条下有这样一句：

He has committed himself to support his brother’s children. 他已答应抚养他弟弟的孩子。

显然该句使用的是 commit sb to do sth 句型，而上面释义中给出的只有 ~ sb / oneself (to sth / to doing sth)，建议将加粗部分的句型结构改为：~ sb / oneself (to sth / to do sth / to doing sth)，即增加 to do sth 这一搭配，以使释义句型与后面例句所套用的句型一致。

【No.43】

第 276 页的 commitment 词条：

commitment n 1.[U] ~ (to sth) committing or being committed (commit 2)：the commitment of a patient to a mental hospital 把病人送进精神病院

【说明】释义中的 committing or being committed (commit 2) 漏掉了中文翻译，与全书体例不一致。

第 502 页的 exile 词条：

2. [C] long stay away from one’s country or home 长期去国或离家

【说明】译文中的“长期去国”应为“长期出国”。

【No.45】

第 1024 页的 one 词条：

No one of you could lift that piano. 你们一个人谁也抬不动那架钢琴。

【说明】译文中的“抬”似应改为“搬”。查现代汉语词典：“抬”指“共同用手或肩膀搬东西”。“共同”至少两个人或两个人以上，既然是“一个人”，就不适合用“抬”，故建议改为“搬”。
