director[di5rektE] n.1. [C]管理者所长处长局长主任:I hate to trouble the director. 我不想去麻烦主任。2.[C]董事导演:He is one of the directors of the company. 他是这个公司的董事之一。

directory[di5rektEri] n.[C]姓名地址录:Her name is listed in the telephone directory. 她的名字被列在电话簿上。

dirt[dE:t] n. 1.[U]污物脏物:Wash the dirt off. 把污垢洗掉。2.[U]泥土:The children came in from the garden covered in dirt. 孩子们从花园进来满身是泥。

dirty[5dE:ti] adj.脏的:Your hands are dirtygo and wash them! 你的手很脏快洗去! / Repairing cars is a dirty job. 修理车子是个脏活。

disability[7disE5biliti] n. 1.[C]残疾伤残:He gets money from the government because of his disabilities. 他向政府领取伤残救济金。2.[U]无能无力:He knew his disability in this direction. 他知道自己在这方面无能。

disabled[dis5eibEld] adj.残废的残疾的:Those studying there are mostly disabled children. 在那里学习的多数是残疾儿童。/ The disabled will receive more money. 残疾人将得到更多钱。

disadvantage[7disEd5vB:ntidV] n. [C,U]不利弱点:take sb. at a disadvantage 乘人不备乘人之危 / His bad health is a great disadvantage to him. 身体差是他的大短处。

disagree[7disE5gri:] vi. 1.意见不一致:They disagree with each other over this plan. 他们对这个计划相互意见不一致。2.不一致不相符:What he says disagrees with the fact. 他说的与事实不符。3.不适合:The food disagrees with my taste. 这食物不合我口味。

【说明】与动词agree后可接不定式和that从句不一样disagree后即不能接不定式也不能接that从句要表示“不同意做某事”不用disagree to do sth可改用refuse to do sth等;后接that从句时可改为agree的否定式。

disagreement[7disE5grimEnt] n. [C,U]意见不一致争论:We have been having a few disagreements lately. 近来我们有些争执。

disappear[7disE5piE] vi.消失:The sun disappeared behind the clouds. 太阳消失在云层中。/ The worried expression has disappeared from his face. 他脸上的愁容消失了。

disappoint[7disE5pCint] vt. 1.使失望:I was much disappointed at his absence. 他不在我很失望。2.使受挫:I’m sorry to disappoint your plans. 对不起我阻碍了你的计划。

disappointment[7disE5pCintid] n. 1.[U]失望沮丧:He left the station in [with] great disappointment. 他非常失望的离开了火车站。2.[C]令人失望的人()The child is a disappointment to his parents. 这孩子真叫他父母失望。 to one’s disappointment 令人失望的是:To his disappointment, she didn’t come. 使他失望的是她没有来。
