foreign[5fCriN] adj.外国的:Are you able to speak a foreign language? 你能讲外语吗? / He’s our foreign minister. 他是我们的外交部长。

foreigner[5fCriNnE] n. [C]外国人:Many foreigners have become citizens of the United States. 许多外国人都已成为美国公民。

foresee[5fCris](foresaw, foreseen) vt.预见预知:This is something I didn’t foresee, and therefore failed to provide for it. 这是未能预料的一种情况因此没有做准备。

forest[5fCrist] n. [C,U]森林:Very little forest is left unexplored nowadays. 如今未经勘测的森林已是少之又少。/ They can’t see the forest for the trees. 他们见树不见林(一叶障目)

forever[fE5revE] adv. 1.永远永恒的:Once a use, forever a custom. 习惯成自然。2.不断总是:She’s forever complaining. 她总是发牢骚。

forget[fE5get](forgot, forgotten) v. 1.忘记忘掉:I’ve forgotten his name. 我忘记了他的名字。2.忘记带:I forgot my umbrella. 我忘记带伞了。■forget about 忘记不把…放在心上:He forgot about the meeting. 他忘了去开会。

【用法】1.后接不定式或动名词含义上有区别:接不定式表示忘记要做的事情动名词表示忘记已经做过或已经发生过的事情:I forgot to pay him. 我忘记付给他钱了。(钱未付) / I forgot paying him. 我忘记曾给他付过钱了。(钱已付) 2.表示忘记带某物时通常不与具体的地点连用遇此情况可改为动词leave等:He left his wallet in the office. 他把钱包忘在办公室了。

forgetful[fE5getful] adj. 1.健忘的:Old people are sometimes forgetful. 老年人有时健忘。2.不留心的疏忽的:He was forgetful of sleep and meals. 他废寝忘食。

比较forgetfulunforgettable:前者指“()健忘的”后者指“(令人)难忘的”。注意两者使用的后缀不同。

forgive[fE5giv](forgave, forgiven) v. 原谅宽恕:I’ll never forgive you. 我永远不原谅你。/ They forgave his being rude.=They forgave (him) his rudeness.=They forgave him for being rude. 他们原谅了他的鲁莽。/ Please forgive me for interrupting [my interrupting]. 对不起打搅了。
