hono(u)r[5CnE] n. 1.[C,U]荣誉光荣:He has won honor for the country. 他替国家争了光。2.[U]尊敬敬意:They stood in silence as a mark of honor to her. 他们肃立向她致敬。vt.尊敬给予荣誉:I’m honored that you should remember me. 你竟然记得我使我感到荣幸。■1. do sb honor / do honor to sb 对某人表示敬意或纪念:We attended his birthday party to do him honor.=We attended his birthday party to do honor to him. 我们参加了他的生日晚会以表示对他的敬意。2. do sb the honor of doing [to do] sth 给某人面子做某事某人做某事的荣幸:Would you do me the honor of dancing with me?=Would you do me the honor to dance with me? 能请你跳曲舞吗? 3. have the honor of doing [to do] sth 有幸做某事或荣幸地做某事:That year I had the honor of being admitted into the Party. 那一年我荣幸地被接受入了党。4. in honor of 为向…表示敬意为纪念…为祝贺…为了欢迎…为招待…:We had a party in honor of his birthday. 为了祝贺他的生日我们举行了一个晚会。

hook[huk] n. [C]钩子:Hang your coat on the hook. 把你的外套挂在那钩子上。v. 用钩钓住挂到钩上:Hook it over that nail. 把它挂在那个钉子上。

hope[hEup] n. [C,U]希望:This is our last hope. 这是我们最后的希望。v.希望:Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. 作最好的打算作最坏的准备。■1. have hopes [the hope] of doing sth 有做某事的希望:He has hopes [the hope]of winning. 他对胜利充满信心。2. in the hope of doing sth / in hopes of doing sth 希望做某事:He came in the hope of seeing her.=He came in hopes of seeing her. 他来是希望能见到她。

【用法】1.可接不定式作宾语但不接不定式的复合结构即可说hope to do sth但不能说hope sb to do sth如不说 I hope him to go with us可改为I hope that he will go with us. I hope for him to go with us. 2.可用作及物动词后接宾语从句但不接名词或代词作宾语遇此情况可用hope forWe are hoping for good weather. 我们希望有好天气。3.表示做某事的希望用作名词的hope可接of doing sth但不接不定式如可说 I have no hope of going (我没有去的希望)但不说I have no hope to go

hopeful[5hEupfEl] adj.有希望的有前途的:I’m still hopeful that he will come. 我仍然相信他会来。We are hopeful about the future. 我们对未来充满希望。

hopeless[5hEuplis] adj. 1.没有希望的不可救药的:It seems to be a hopeless case. 看来没有希望了。2.无用的无益的:Your work is hopeless. 你的工作一无是处。3.没有能力的:The rain is coming into my house and I am helpless. 雨水进了我的房间我一点办法也没有。

horrible[5hCribEl] adj.1.令人恐惧的可怕的:There was a horrible accident here yesterday. 昨天在这里发生了一起可怕的事故。2.令人讨厌的糟透的:This medicine tastes horrible. 这种药味道难吃极了。

horse[hC:s] n. [C]马:Can you ride a horse? 你会骑马吗

hospital[5hCspitEl] n. [C,U]医院:I’m going to the hospital to visit my uncle. 我要去医院看望我的叔叔。

【用法】表示“住院”、“进医院”、“出院”等在英国英语中不用冠词而在美国英语中可用冠词She is ill in (the) hospital. 她生病住在医院里。

host[hEust] n. [U,C]主人东道主节目主持人

hostess[5hEustis] n. [C]女主人:He thanked his hostess before he left the party. 他在离开晚会时向女主人道了谢。

hot[hCt] adj. 热的:How hot is the water? 水有多热呢

hot dog[5hCt dCg] n. [C]热狗:There is a hot dog shop around there. 这附近有一家卖热狗的商店。/ I want a hot dog. 我想要一节热狗。

hotel [hEu5tel] n. [C]旅馆饭店宾馆酒店:the Peace Hotel 和平饭店 / This is a five-star hotel. 这是一家五星级宾馆。

hour[auE] n. 1.[C]小时:An hour in the morning is worth two in the evening. ()一日之计在于晨。2.[C]一小时所行的路程:The city is two hours away. 该城离此两小时路程。3.[C]时间时刻:the rush hour 交通拥挤时刻 / office hours 办公时间 / business hours 营业时间■by the hour 按小时按钟点: He was paid by the hour. 他按钟点领薪。
