一、用作名词

1. [C]行为，行动，举动：

a kind act 善举

acts of terrorism 恐怖行动

2. [C]法令，条例：

The act was passed by Congress and went into effect in August,1950. 这项法令由国会通过，于1950年8月生效。

3. [C](戏剧的)一幕：

We especially enjoyed the third act of the play. 我们特别喜欢戏的第3幕。

【常用短语】

in the act (of) 当场，正在(做某事)：

He was caught in the act of stealing a car. 他偷汽车时被逮个正着。

二、用作动词

1. 行动，做事，举止：

Think before acting. 三思而后行。

The boy acted very badly at school. 男孩在学校里表现得很不好。

2. 扮演，演戏：

She was just acting and wasn’t really sorry. 她只是装模作样，并不真的很难过。

3. 担任，充当：

He acts as head of department when his boss is away. 老板外出时，他担当部门主任。

4. 起作用，生效：

The medicine acted on his fever at once. 这药立刻使他退了烧。vt. 扮演：

act for 代理，代表：

act on 按…行动；作用于，影响：

act out (用手势和语言)表演出来：
